official volunteers for one whole year

Today, Topher and I celebrated the one year anniversary of our becoming Peace Corps Volunteers in Cambodia.

We bought a four dollar of champagne in Phnom Penh a month or so back, and when we didn't drink it, I carted it back and decided to save it for something special.

What is more special that commemorating the day that we took an oath and the week that met our amazing host family?

We had a box of pumpkin bread mix that an amazing person had sent us, and this seemed like the perfect excuse to bust that out to go alongside our champagne. Though Chris maintained that his piece of bread would be fine with just some butter melted on top, the caramel sauce that I quickly made undid him- and we both devoured more bread with caramel than we'd like to admit!

Chris and I spent the evening having a great discussion about what we'd like to accomplish our next year here, as well as some thoughts on our future once our tenure as Volunteers ends. It's surreal how fast time has gone by and shocking to think that we only have a year left. For all the frustrations that can hit us daily, there are so many tangible benefits to living and working in Cambodia. I'm not yet ready to end this adventure yet, and I'm happily making plans and project goals for the second half!
