it's a bit difficult to think of what i've tossed out or done for the last time this year- it felt more like a year of firsts. life altering firsts that have etched themselves onto my heart and mind.

but after deep consideration, i found my answer to this soul pondering query.

or, you could say, the answer found me.

it. found. me.

2012 was the last year for denying my true grown up drink.

let's set this up with a little coming of age tale.

a long time ago, the day passed in which i had gathered the requisite number of years living on earth to legally drink in my home country of the united states.  on the eve of that great event, it was determined that what i needed most desperately for this milestone was the simple essence of a grown up, signature bar drink.

a "classic kate" you might say.

as in, "that __________ is so classic kate!"

first, i tried for a manhattan.  it's red and there's a cherry so we're all good, right?

nope.

there's this little thing called whiskey in a manhattan?

it's yucky.

so i had to settle for a liquor i knew i liked.

vodka.

so i tried vodka tonic.  extra lime.

it was yucky too.  the taste was too...vodka-y.

so i stumped to a new low- i started asking for dirty shirley temples.  shirley temples with vodka.  it was delicious.

but not exactly the grown up drink i was looking for.

so then i settled on wine.  yummy, delicious wine.  red, white, rose. whatevs.

and then came this year and cambodia.

and i'm done.

done pretending i'm an adult.  i'm all about adult chocolate milks.

otherwise known as a mudslide.

i'm a grown up and i will have a mudslide, please and thank you.
