Gooey Goodness Tuesday: Year Old Cake

and then there was the ultimate of all gooey goodness tuesday posts.

there was the cake post.  the post in which topher mchubs and i adventure into the land of frozen year old wedding cake, with thoughts of freezer-burn-soggy-sugar-moldy-cake and find instead...

...lop-sided-with-frosting-missing-and-cake-topper-still-attached cake...

...yucky-looking-once-the-topper-is0removed cake.

topher took a little whiff...

will it be tasty? we shall see!

first bites begun...

and the verdict? AMAZING.

so good that we chopped it up to save for the rest of the week.

after our yummy pursuits, there was just a pile of cake left.

and i'm not lying when i say it was so moist and actually FRESH tasting!

the trick? we wrapped it in saran wrap and then tinfoil and then slowly defrosted it via fridge.

and thus concludes our one year anniversary celebration!

but wait!  we can't leave without thanking the heavens for champagne.

thanks ma and pa for such a delicious anniversary gift!

did you/are you planning to eat your top tier on your anniversary?

  2. That's great to hear your top tier survived. You hear about so many people who saved wedding cake and then a year later it was inedible. We're still about 5 months away from our 1st anniversary, and I hope ours turns out as well. I used multiple layers of foil and plastic wrap, so I've got my fingers crossed!

  3. We did the same thing! Saran wrap and foil and our cake was goooood! We ate the whole top layer. I wanted more. Happy anniversary!!

  4. Happy Anniversary! We couldn't wait to our one year so we (or rather I) devoured the top tier at our one month anniversary. Oops!

  6. Uh, we've been slowly eating our top tier over the course of the last year... is that wrong? It was such good cake!! Luckily we still have a couple pieces left for our anniversary :D Glad your cake was still tasty, it looks delicious!

  9. Fun! I wish we had done this. But without and professional-type person to help us--since we cut our cake in our dining room--we cut in to the top tier on our wedding day. Whoops. Then we--along with my parents and brothers in law--ate the whole thing. Hah. We ended up having a new top tier made by the same lady for our first anniversary--it was good and (obviously) fresh and she charged us a whopping 8 bucks for it (really?!!). Yum! Loved your posts about your anniversary!

  10. Oooh this gives me hope! I spent about 1/2 hour the night of our wedding wrapping the cake in several layers of ziplock bags, aluminum foil, and plastic wrap, so maybe there is hope for it yet!? It's an ENORMOUS cake- it takes up 1/4 of my freezer, so I will be really glad to get that primo real estate back. Now I'm kind of worried. If it is actually good- I'm going to be eating a gigantic layer of cake!

  11. Sadly, I didn't think it would be a good idea for pregnant me to eat year-old cake so I made cupcakes instead. We'll definitely be eating it once the baby comes though! Glad to hear yours was good!

  13. We accidentally left ours at our venue and never retrieved it! Boooo. I am always amazed how 1 year old cake usually tastes good when frozen properly! It like, defies logic. Happy anniversary!

  16. Glad to see the cake survived the freezer treatment - I completely forgot about the trend for leaving the top tier for the 1st anniversary so we won't have one :-(
Ah well I might just have to bake a new one!

  17. So, I sort of ate the cake topper the day after our wedding. In our kitchen. Directly from the box, standing over the sink. Ahem. We'll be ordering a replica. :) I'm glad yours still tasted delicious!

  18. It was delicious?! You are soo lucky! We defrosted ours when we got back from our honeymoon (per the directions of our baker). And... it was awful! I think we didn't close it up well enough, and it had pineapple in it that didn't keep well. Our anniversary is next weekend, and I'm off to call the baker to makes us a replica cake top!

  19. Happy anniversary! Dang, the cake looked delish!!! We weren't willing to sacrifice our freezer space for a year, so hubs and I ate our topper after 1 month! Now our 1 year is coming up: I need to order a small cake for us!
