Bandwagon (again): Dialect Vlog!

So I jumped on another bandwagon: the dialect vlog! First I saw kjpug's vlog, the Katie's at Ruffles and Truffles, and finally, when I saw that Abby from Wife, From Scratch did it, I just had to join in the fun.

Though I don't think I say anything weird at all, because where I grew up in Southeastern Idaho is right near Salt Lake, which is right where they send all of the newscasters to learn how to speak without an accent. So I don't have one, right?

I'm sad because my first attempt at this didn't record.  So, you get a fun 44 second intro, and then the reading.  I just realized while writing this that a lot of setting up got deleted, like me setting the rationale and guidelines and some "witty" asides.  Either way, enjoy part 1 and 2 of my first ever vlog!

(Oh, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I talk to Boomer a lot in this vlog. Someone (ahem, Topher) should have told me to leave well enough alone and not include her. Woops.)

Part 1:

(I really need to learn how to upload videos, because, really?! that freeze frame?! and the black screen below?! I don't get it...)

Part 2:

You all should REALLY do this. It's fun.

Here are the words to repeat and questions to answer:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting Image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And the questions:

  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  • What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
  • What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
  • What do you call gym shoes?
  • What do you say to address a group of people?
  • What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
  • What do you call your grandparents?
  • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
  • What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
  • What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
I think I like vlogging. I know I need to make the light better and take out Boomer, but what kinds of topics would you like to hear about?

  1. The totally blank expression on Boomer's face made me LOL throughout this video. Daffodil is also a fan of the clueless thousand-yard stare. Maybe they're kindred spirits!

  2. Aw this is such a cute video! You've always reminded me of someone but I've never figured out who. My dad says wooder too.
And it's a shopping cart, not just a steel wheeled contraption!

  3. You're so cute, Kate! And I totally love that you say it "car-a-mel" too.. because I thought I was the only one who says it the way it's spelled ;)

Keep vlogging! I like it better than I thought I would, I may start doing it more as well.

  7. @Carrie: Ha! She always looks like that. It's awesome.
@Cole: Uh oh! I hope it's not someone that drives you nuts :)
@stephc: I'm with you! I actually get frustrated by "car-mel" because there's clearly an A in there! :)
@Sara: That's awesome! Maybe I'll adopt that, haha.
@Lavenderpug: aww, you're too nice. I thought Boomer was a good helper too
    @notes: YOU should do vlogs...
@BigAppleNosh: Not nearly as awesome as those amazing food posts of yours :)

  10. You are seriously so freaking adorable!!! :) And you're right...you have like zippy zero accent, but I think that's AWESOME and that you should be either a newscaster or a radio personality. Ha! Additionally, when my parents lived in Tennessee, they called "shopping carts" "buggies". Very odd.
